Rigid Galvanized Duct (4-inch)

The default run we specify, and the only thing we will conceal inside a wall or ceiling. Smooth-wall galvanized in 4-inch nominal, joints crimped so they run with the airflow rather than against it, sealed with foil tape instead of screws. That last detail is the one most installers get wrong: a screw tip inside the duct is a lint hook, and once it starts collecting you get a blockage at a point nobody can reach without opening drywall.

Rigid Aluminum Duct (4-inch)

Same smooth-wall requirement as galvanized, lighter to work with, and the one we reach for on reroutes through finished space where the run has to be handled a lot before it is fastened. It meets the same code rules; the choice between the two is usually about the install, not the performance.

Adjustable Metal Elbow

Every bend costs you length. Code counts a 90-degree bend as five feet of your allowance and a 45 as two and a half, so on a long run the difference between two elbows and four is the difference between a duct that clears and a duct that never will. We use adjustable elbows to hold the angle we actually need instead of forcing the run to fit stock fittings.

Length penalty: 90° counts as 5 ft, 45° as 2.5 ft (IRC M1502.4.5.1)

Recessed Dryer Vent Box

A box let into the wall cavity so the elbow and transition sit inside the wall instead of behind the machine. It buys back four to six inches of depth, which is usually the difference between a laundry closet door that shuts and one that does not. It also stops the crushed-hose problem, where pushing the dryer back kinks the transition and the run silently loses most of its airflow.

Periscope (Close-Clearance) Vent

A flat telescoping section that lets the dryer sit almost against the wall when the wall outlet and the appliance outlet do not line up. Honest limitation: a periscope is a fixed offset, so it only works when the two openings are genuinely close. If they are far apart or on different planes, a recessed box or a reroute is the right call and we will say so rather than force it.

Wall & Floor Penetration Thimble

The sleeve that carries the duct through a framed wall or floor cleanly, holds the run centred, and keeps the penetration sealed. Small part, and the one that gets skipped most often on rushed installs — which is how you end up with a duct resting on a joist edge and slowly wearing a hole in itself.

Foil Tape Joint Sealing

How the joints actually get sealed, because the obvious method is the prohibited one. Code does not allow fasteners that extend into the duct, so every joint on a run we build is taped rather than screwed. Cloth duct tape is not a substitute here — it dries out, releases, and the joint opens up inside the wall where nobody sees it.

Insulated Sleeve for Attic Runs

For the stretch of duct that crosses an unconditioned attic. Hot wet dryer air hitting cold metal condenses, the water runs back down the duct, and the lint it soaks turns into a paste that no amount of brushing shifts. Insulating that stretch is the fix. If your run crosses an attic in an unheated space and it has never been sleeved, this is worth looking at before the next cleaning.
