Wall Hood with Backdraft Damper

The standard exterior termination: a hood with a damper that swings open on airflow and falls shut when the dryer stops. Closed, it keeps weather and pests out; open, it should not restrict the run. We check that the damper actually moves freely on every visit, because a painted-over or lint-jammed damper looks completely normal from the ground while quietly strangling the whole system.

Wide-Mouth Low-Restriction Hood

A larger-mouthed hood for runs that are already at the edge of their length allowance and cannot afford to lose any more airflow at the exit. It is not a cure for a run that is too long — that is what a booster is for — but on a marginal run it is a cheap way to claw back some performance at the one point in the system that is easy to reach.

Roof Jack Termination

For runs that have to exit through the roof because there is no usable exterior wall. Two things matter here and neither is the vent itself: the flashing has to be right or you have bought yourself a roof leak, and the run needs to stay as short and straight as it can, because a vertical exit tends to add elbows fast. We would rather reroute to a wall when the house allows it.

Soffit Termination

Used where the run has to come out under the eave. Workable, with one caution we will always raise: warm moist exhaust discharging close to a soffit intake can get pulled straight back into the attic. If the geometry looks like that, we will move the termination rather than install it and hope.

Pest-Resistant Damper Hood

The correct answer to birds nesting in the duct — and the place we most often have to correct someone. Code does not permit a screen on a dryer termination, and the mesh guards sold for this are exactly what turns a working vent into a lint-packed blockage. What actually keeps birds out is a hood whose damper seals properly when the dryer is off. If a nest has already been built, the nest comes out first; a new hood over an occupied duct solves nothing.
